Burn Cottage Riesling Grüner Veltliner 2019
Burn Cottage Riesling Grüner Veltliner 2019
Burn Cottage Vineyard Property is a twenty four hectare estate in the foothills of the Pisa range in Central Otago, New Zealand. The vineyard is owned by the Sauvage family which also owns the celebrated Koehler Ruprecht estate in the Pfalz region of Germany, as well as several fine wine importing and wholesaling companies in the United States.
The Riesling and Gruner Veltliner grow in a slightly cooler microclimate in a side valley near the top Burn Cottages vineyards, allowing these varieties more time for lovely flavour development and concentration.
The Gruner Veltliner and Riesling varietals were picked separately with both destemmed, lightly foot crushed and bathed in juice for 48-72 hours before pressing. The varieties were then pressed together and co-fermented in stainless steel barrels and neutral oak barriques for 11 months.
Lifted perfume and floral notes of peach, lime and ginger along with the herbal touch of pepper, fennel and lemongrass. The 2019 vintage is lively with a bright focus and finesse throughout. The lovely concentration and depth of flavour is enhanced by a delicate structure. Dry at 3.8 grams of residual sugar, but with very supple texture and long palate. A perfect wine match for meals with a hint of spice.
