Adelaide-born Dave Fletcher is a self confessed Nebbiolo addict. So much so that shortly after falling in love with Nebbiolo in 2006, Dave moved to Piedmonte in 2007 to explore his passion for Nebbiolo, and has since produced an outstanding range that is both characteristic of the Piedmont region and innovative in itself. Time spent making wine and absorbing local knowledge at Ceretto have only served to deepen his love of the region and it’s great wines. Now the proud owner of, and making wine in the old train station in Barbaresco, Dave’s passion has reached its pinnacle, and the wines show it! Produced in very small quantities, we are very excited to have a small allocation this year.

Deriving from Daves own vineyard in the zone called by the locals ‘Bricco Capre’ which is within the Alba DOC, the vines are over 60 years old and extremely low cropping. The fruit produced is perfectly formed with crunchy skins and amazing fruit intensity. Dave plays with whole bunch fruit during fermentation allowing for gentle extraction and a focus on the aromatics of the grape in preference to colour and tannin. 50% whole bunch pressed, open fermented with wild yeast, and aged for 8 months in 10 year old seasoned barriques. The bottling is done without fining or filtration.

The end result is a brilliant, extremely elegant Barbera with lifted berry fruits aromatics layered with dense dark fruits on the palate finishing long and mouth-watering. Let it breathe in the glass, this becomes more structured and defined. This will sit comfortably alongside rich foods, meats, tomato based dishes and earthy mushrooms.
