Catalina Sounds is a renowned winery that embarked on its journey in 2005 with a singular vision to craft the finest wines in Marlborough. Named after the majestic Catalina flying boats and the iconic Marlborough Sounds, the winery's offerings truly reflect the region and its vineyard sites, while adding an extra textural dimension that is uniquely Catalina Sounds. The winery has evolved from its humble beginnings and has garnered acclaim for its premium Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, expanding its repertoire to include new varieties such as Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris. Additionally, Catalina Sounds produces a single vineyard range from its estate vineyard Sound of White and a sister brand called Crowded House. The name "Catalina Sounds" pays homage to the Catalina flying boats, which played a vital role in the South Pacific during and after World War II. The winery is accredited with Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand, reflecting its commitment to sustainability in winemaking and viticulture. Furthermore, the Appellation Marlborough Wine certification is integral to Catalina Sounds' vision of producing the finest wines from Marlborough serving as a benchmark for protecting provenance and ensuring integrity and quality. Situated in Marlborough, a haven of new world winemaking, Catalina Sounds has established itself as a prominent player in the global wine market particularly renowned for its hallmark style of Sauvignon Blanc characterized by a harmonious balance of lively fruit and distinctive acidity. The Sound of White Vineyard located in the Waihopai Valley, embodies the inspiration for the winery's name offering an awe-inspiring and peaceful setting that influences the creation of compelling, honest and pure wines that distinctly represent the Waihopai Valley. Catalina Sounds' vineyards span the three sub-regions of the Wairau, Southern and Awatere Valleys in Marlborough each characterized by unique soil profiles that contribute to the depth and nuance of the winery's offerings making them truly distinctive to Catalina Sounds.

Elevate your senses with the Catalina Sounds Pinot Gris, a captivating symphony of flavors and textures. This exquisite vintage opens with lifted floral notes of elderflower, pear, cinnamon and custard, setting the stage for a truly indulgent experience. On the palate, the wine reveals its generous nature, marrying ripe fruit and texture to create a delightful richness that is impeccably balanced by very fine minerality and a touch of residual sugar. The journey culminates in a memorable finish that lingers with notes of dried cranberry and black tea, leaving a lasting impression. Crafted with meticulous care, the Catalina Sounds Pinot Gris is a testament to the art of winemaking. Fruit from the esteemed Sound of White vineyard was harvested in the early morning and pressed immediately at the winery. The resulting free run juice underwent a wild fermentation in older oak, contributing 5% to the final blend. The remaining balance was clarified and underwent a cool fermentation in stainless steel, with a select yeast chosen to express the varietal's unique character. The fruit from Fairhall Downs was harvested in early April, cold-settled and then fermented in stainless steel. The wines were left on their yeast lees in stainless steel and oak to enhance richness and complexity before being blended and bottled. This exceptional vintage is a true testament to the artistry of winemaking, offering an experience to be savoured over the next 3-5 years when cellared correctly. With its captivating flavors, impeccable structure and vegan-friendly production, the Catalina Sounds Pinot Gris invites enthusiasts to embark on a journey of timeless elegance with every sip.

Attractive pinot gris that's been made with a light touch with poached pear, apple, ginger and nutty yeast lees characters. A dry wine with appealing purity and an ethereal texture. - Bob Campbell, The Real Review, 93 Points.
