Coriole Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2021
Coriole Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2021
Coriole was founded by Hugh and Molly Lloyd in 1967, and they released their first wine in 1969. The Estate is still owned by the Lloyd family and is now managed by second and third-generation Lloyd family members. Coriole is situated in the undulating hills of the densely planted McLaren Vale region just within sight of the sea and less than an hour from Adelaide.
The original farmhouses were built in 1860 and are now the epicentre of the garden and cellar door at the winery. The original vineyards were planted in 1919.
The soils on the Estate vineyard are predominantly terra rossa soils. These soils are shallow with red-brown earth over hard capped limestone. The underlying geology is known as the Tapley Hill Foundation which is reputably over 700 million years old. This foundation tends to produce deeply coloured red wines with good structure and backbone that show great capacity for ageing.
Rich blackcurrant and blackberry, black olive, a little cedar oak in tow. It’s full-bodied, but balanced, plenty of savoury kind of ferrous Cabernet flavour, some nougat too, some brine, thick stony tannin, and a robust finish of good length. It’s a bold wine, and quite serious, also, it’s very good. - Gary Walsh, The Winefront, 93 points.
