While the proportions of blending are a carefully guarded secret, Tito does disclose that he mixes these exceptional rums with a little cane sugar prior to blending with the main body of rums to amplify their flavour so they impart a slight touch of sweetness and a distinctive flavour to the finished rum.

Don Juancho was widely travelled and over the years amassed a large collection of rums which he took great pleasure in offering his guests at the lavish dinner parties he held at his house.

The distillery employs a variety of aging methods, including the Solera System and traditional aging in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks. These techniques impart unique flavours and characteristics to each rum expression, ranging from rich caramel and vanilla notes to subtle hints of oak, spice, and tropical fruits. Diplomático rums have earned numerous awards and accolades from prestigious spirits competitions and industry experts, solidifying the distillery’s reputation as a world-class producer of premium rum. Philosophy:

With a sugarcane base. It is all grown in Venezuela. The area boasts perfect environmental conditions for sugarcane growth. For fermentation they use an in-house cultivated and maintained yeast strain for its unique aromatic flavour compounds. Diplomático uses a combination of distillation methods to obtain a wide variety of rums from which to blend. First distillation is column stills, followed by a second in either column, batch kettle or pot still.

For maturation, most of rums' flavours and aromas are created during the ageing process. Depending on the rum, different types of casks for ageing, including ex-bourbon, new American oak; and a selection of former ex sherry barrels. There is a static method for aging at the warehouses this means they do not refill or mix the rums inside the barrels during the maturation process.
