The Domaine Weinbach Alsace Théo Riesling 2023 is a dry, biodynamically farmed Riesling centred on the historic Clos des Capucins at the foot of the Schlossberg hill in Alsace. The enclosed vineyard takes its name from the Capuchin friars who established themselves here in the early seventeenth century and today forms the historic heart of Domaine Weinbach. Its gently sloping site is sheltered by surrounding hills and old walls, while sandy-loam soils over gravel and granitic pebbles warm readily and promote relatively early ripening. These free-draining soils give Cuvée Théo its characteristic combination of fragrance, supple fruit, freshness and mineral precision. The vineyard is farmed according to biodynamic principles, with Domaine Weinbach holding both Ecocert organic and Demeter biodynamic certification.

The Riesling grapes are harvested by hand and gently pressed as whole bunches before spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts in traditional old oak casks. For the 2023 Cuvée Théo, maturation continued for approximately ten months in old oak, preserving purity and texture without imparting obvious wood flavour. The wine is dry and finely drawn, with citrus, lemon, stone fruit and subtle honeyed notes complemented by stony minerality and a delicate creamy texture. Bright acidity keeps the palate energetic and precise, while a subtle saline character adds definition through the mid-palate and finish. Elegant rather than forceful, the 2023 balances ripe fruit with freshness, mineral tension and impressive purity.
