Launched in 1996, Don Julio Añejo is aged 18 months to 2 years in recharged American white oak casks previously used to age bourbon whiskey. Presented in a squat bottle with a white wooden screw cap.

Añejo Tequila is a type of tequila that has been aged for a minimum of one year in oak barrels. The aging process imparts rich flavors and complexity to the tequila, resulting in a smooth and refined spirit. Añejo tequilas often exhibit notes of caramel, vanilla, and oak, with a mellow and rounded character. They are darker in colour compared to Blanco or Reposado tequilas. Añejo tequilas are typically enjoyed neat or on the rocks to savour their intricate flavors. They are considered a premium category of tequila and are appreciated by tequila enthusiasts for their depth and sophistication.

Don Julio Añejo Tequila is a remarkable spirit that captivates the senses with its full-bodied and complex profile. With expressions of cooked agave, wild honey and oak-infused butterscotch, it offers a truly indulgent tasting experience. This tequila showcases a beautiful straw gold colour with hints of amber, enticing the eye before even taking a sip. On the palate, it reveals a harmonious blend of sweet and floral flavors, including pear, spice, white pepper, wood and a subtle hint of cigar. The finish is long and slightly chewy, leaving a lasting impression. Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, Don Julio Añejo Tequila is aged for a minimum of 18 months in American oak barrels, allowing the flavors to develop and mature to perfection. The result is a smooth and refined spirit that is easy to drink and serves as a great introduction to the category of aged tequilas. It is best enjoyed neat or on the rocks to fully appreciate its intricate flavors and velvety texture. Don Julio Añejo Tequila is a testament to the legacy of Don Julio González and has gained recognition for its exceptional quality. It offers a unique and memorable tasting experience, combining the richness of agave with the influence of oak aging.

Maker:
Don Julio Tequila is a revered and iconic brand that represents the pinnacle of craftsmanship and dedication to the art of tequila production. Founded by Don Julio González in 1942, this Mexican tequila has become synonymous with exceptional quality and an unwavering commitment to tradition. Don Julio Tequila is crafted with utmost care and attention to detail, starting with the selection of the finest blue agave plants from the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico. These agaves, grown for an average of seven to ten years are handpicked at their peak ripeness ensuring the fullest expression of flavour. The heart of Don Julio Tequila lies in its production process, which combines time-honoured techniques with modern innovation. The agave piñas are slow-cooked in traditional masonry ovens, allowing the sugars to develop and create a rich and complex flavour profile. After the cooking process, the agave is crushed and the juice is extracted, fermented and carefully distilled to perfection. The result is a range of tequilas that exemplify the essence of their respective expressions. From the vibrant and crisp Blanco, with its notes of citrus and agave, to the aged and refined Añejo and Reposado, which showcase the influence of oak barrels with hints of vanilla and caramel, each expression offers a unique and memorable tasting experience. Don Julio Tequila is not just a brand; it is a symbol of Mexican heritage and craftsmanship. It is a tequila that has been celebrated and enjoyed by tequila connoisseurs and enthusiasts around the world.

The nose is fruit-driven highland agave notes dominate on the first pass, with a noticeable agave “freshness.” Oak, barnwood and a hint of caramel follow alongside bright peppercorn, apricot and a citrus-floral note. The first sip opens a little sweet and floral, with notes of pear. As it leaves the front of your mouth, the tannic spices tingle your lips and the medium-bodied spirit sits on your midpalate, slightly chewy. As it moves to the back of the mouth, you find the wood and cigar notes, white pepper spice, a hint of rose and cinnamon. To round it off the finish is long with oak and spice. - Liquor.com
