About this bottle
From Henschke’s Light Pass vineyard, near the marble quarry that inspired its name.
Henschke Marble Angel Cabernet Sauvignon 2023 is a single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon from Light Pass in South Australia's Barossa Valley. The vineyard lies on ancient red clay and limestone soils near the Angaston marble quarry that inspired the wine's name and connects it to Henschke family sculptor Julius Henschke. The 2023 vintage produced Cabernet with impressive fruit purity, structure, mature tannins and length following a cool, extended ripening season. Deep ruby and crimson in colour, the wine combines classic blackcurrant and dark cherry fruit with violet, black pepper and distinctive leafy Cabernet characters. Cedar and sandalwood provide further savoury complexity while maintaining an elegant, finely structured profile.
Matured for 17 months in French oak hogsheads, its palate layers dark red fruits and cassis with roasted hazelnut, Dutch cocoa, dried thyme and bay leaf. Fine tannins provide definition and structure without overwhelming the fruit, carrying the wine through an exceptionally long finish. The combination of ripe dark fruit, herbal detail, restrained oak and persistent tannin gives this release the classical profile associated with Cabernet Sauvignon from Light Pass. Henschke indicates a cellaring potential of more than 20 years from vintage.

Reviews & Accolades
“The 2023 vintage is considered excellent but such ratings don’t count for much if it’s not reflected in the glass. In the case of this Henschke Marble Angel Cabernet Sauvignon 2023, the glory of the season is 100% reflected. A stash of this in your cellar would be a very precious thing. The weave of tannin through this wine is so intricate that it’s almost worth the price of admission in itself; especially though because the body of this wine is so well fleshed with blackcurrant, green olives, cedarwood, licorice and choc-cream flavours. There’s a keen momentum to this wine and it carries all the way through to the long run of the finish. It’s medium in weight but the quality here is more than impressive; it’s outstanding.” — Campbell Mattinson, CampbellMattinson.com, 95+ Points
“Deep crimson. Intense blackcurrant, black olive, hint leafy aromas with roasted chestnut notes. Classical claret style with fresh blackcurrant, dark plum, touch leafy flavours, fine grained/ bittersweet tannins, attractive mid-palate volume and underlying roasted walnut notes. Grainy/ leafy finish. Generous and vigorous. 50 year+ vines, Light Pass subregion. 17 months maturation in new (13%) and seasoned French oak hogsheads. Drink now – 2040” — Andrew Caillard MW, The Vintage Journal, 94 Points
