Hentley Farm von Kasper Cabernet Sauvignon 2010
Hentley Farm von Kasper Cabernet Sauvignon 2010
Hentley Farm was established in 1997 by Keith and Alison Hentschke, who had a single vision to craft exceptional single estate wines from the Barossa Valley.
Using an old soil map from the 1950’s to strategically locate the best parcels of land, they discovered a mixed farming property set among the rolling hills on the banks of Greenock Creek in Barossa’s west, with remarkable diversity of soil types, and varying aspects and altitudes.
Great Barossan cabernets come from rare and special sites... Sites where the land is flat, the air is cool, the soils are deep and the vines are protected from the afternoon sun, just like the one on which the fruit for the von Kasper is grown. True to both region and varietal, the von Kasper displays the intense fruit expected from the Barossa, with the essential underlying herbaceousness of the cabernet.
In the unhesitatingly full-bodied style of Hentley Farm, the wine overflows with blackcurrant fruit supported by ripe tannins that provide the all-important structure. My usual wish list is that the grapes be picked early enough to keep the alcohol below 15% and, if that can't be done, so be it. - Wine Companion, Published 17 July 2012, 94 Points
