Founded by Luigi Einaudi, during his time as Governor of Banca d’Italia and President of Italy after the second world war, it is said he never missed a harvest! His son Roberto succeeded him, but it was Roberto’s daughter Paola, on her return from Milano to Dogliani at the end of the 1980s, who with tenacity, enthusiasm and significant investment, re-launched this historic brand and went about improving wine quality.

Fermented in steel and concrete tanks under strict Temperature control, post-fermentation maceration, racked after 22/25 days, decanted, and by maintaining the right temperature malolactic process is induced. A long period of maturation in big barrels on oak, thereafter a period in bottle to complete the aging. The wines are now harmonious, with an incredible olfactory intensity and suitable for aging.

The Bussia terroir gives the wine great structure and intense garnet colour. A rich bouquet of ripe berries and very ripe pomegranate lead to a palate of clear and enveloping tannins with a long and consistent aftertaste, paired with spicy and balsamic notes and a persistent and silky finale.

Bright berries and a hint of pomegranate, together with damp chalk and some fern. Medium-bodied with a tight, focused palate and firm, light-grained tannins. Quite a racy feel to this now. Should broaden out with another couple of years in bottle. - James Suckling, 93 Points.
