Product Description
The 2023 Yabby Lake Single Vineyard Pinot Noir is a testament to the purity and character that Yabby Lake's estate-grown vineyards produce. With the cool and late-ripening 'La Nina' conditions of the vintage, this wine showcases exceptional quality, thanks to low yields and concentrated fruit. The blend of MV6, G5V15, Abel, 667, and D4V2 clones from blocks 1, 2, 5, and 3 is handpicked and meticulously handled throughout the winemaking process. The wine undergoes natural fermentation, with a small portion of whole bunches included for complexity. After fermentation, the wine is matured in French oak barrels, with 25% of the barrels being new, to allow for the seamless integration of flavours. The result is a bright crimson Pinot Noir with layers of red fruit aromas, floral notes, and a touch of spice. On the palate, fine-grained tannins create a rich, full-bodied texture, which gives way to a long, lingering finish. This wine promises aging potential, with the ability to cellar for 5 to 10 years or more, and continues to evolve beautifully over time.
Maker
Yabby Lake’s winemaking is led by Tom Carson, whose expertise and deep understanding of the vineyards play a central role in creating wines that truly reflect their origins. The winery team takes an intuitive approach, selecting each parcel of fruit by hand and handling it with care through the winemaking process. Tom's approach emphasises minimal intervention, ensuring that the wines express their individual terroir and the unique characteristics of the season. This commitment to quality shines through in the meticulous handling of each grape variety, with a particular focus on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The results are wines that showcase both elegance and complexity, with a commitment to the purity of the fruit at their core.
Philosophy
At Yabby Lake, our philosophy revolves around crafting wines that mirror the personality of the season and the vineyard. We focus on capturing the essence of each vintage and vineyard through careful selection and individual parcel handling. The philosophy extends to our Single Block Release wines, where exceptional parcels are bottled separately to showcase their unique character. In 2022, we expanded our vision by acquiring a property in Tasmania's renowned Coal River Valley, enhancing our dedication to producing exceptional Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. With this new vineyard, we aim to further our exploration of distinctive terroirs and create wines that embody the diversity and richness of the Coal River Valley.
