The Yamazaki Distillery is Japan’s first and oldest malt whisky distillery founded in 1923 by Suntory's founder Shinjiro Torii. Yamazaki is not only the soul place of Suntory Whisky but the birthplace of Japanese Whisky. Inspired by traditional Scottish whisky, it is said that Torii selected the land of Yamazaki at the foot of Mt. Tennozan, for its high-quality water source and natural environment ideal for whisky making. The Yamazaki 25 year old single malt whisky is a brilliant amber in colour, with Mizunara smoky notes of incense on the nose, followed by a complex bouquet of mature kaki persimmon and ume plum notes. On the palate, a smoky first sip of Mizunara sandalwood notes that open and deepen into complex layers of kaki persimmon subtle sweetness, tart ume plum notes and gentle shoga ginger spicy notes. A profound long finish with Mizunara smokiness and lingering subtly sweet wood notes that remain.
